itt is kind of hard to do a project for my Internship because I worked here last year. But it took me a while to come up with this idea but my project will be to help the residence cook their favorite food and give them awards out. So every month my internship will pick a different resident and they will tell us their favorite food and the other residents will help with that. I want the residents to feel like they do not have a illness

Today at my internship I did a lot of stuff. When I first got there I started my daily routine made sure everyone was in the activity room and everyone had their glasses on then after that it was breakfast time so I lead everyone into the dinning hall to eat after they got done eating they went back into the activity room and I read the newspaper to them and read them their horoscope, after that we did some morning exercise and stretches. An hour later I gave the residents snack. After they ate there snacks we all played bowling the residents really enjoyed it so we played that all the way tell lunch time after lunch I went and  help my mentor out I made her folders for a support group she was having and also I updated the bulleten board. Then when I was done with that my mentor and I was discussing ideas for my project. What I got done so far was brainstorm ideas.

The leadership skills I most use at my internship would have to be critical thinking and collaborate productively. For collaborating productively I will work with the activity directors and we would do different projects with them to keep them occupied so they wont get fussy or irritated. My second leadership skill I use was critical thinking, when I got stuck in a situation with the resident I would have to try and figure it out but if I cant help the resident then I would have to tell a care giver.

What I have learned about myself working here is that I am very patient when it comes to helping people with this type of disease. I know there are some people that do not have the patients to do this so I am very happy about this. The reason I think I am so patient is because I help take care of my aunt when she was living with us and she had dementia, so I have had a lot of experience. Some skills I have learned about myself would be getting the residents to sit done they taught me several techniques and also I learned a lot about medicine and which ones are good and bad and also what are they for, and what the side affects are.

In order to find my Internship and get hired I had to ask my mentor would she except me back and she said of course. This is the same internship I did my junior year. But last year I had founded my place in the phone book and I called the number and asked if them if they took interns she said years. So I went the next week and she interviewed me and she like that I have work with these types of people before. So then she was like we need people like you to cheer the residents up because a lot of them be lonely and some do not even have family that come visit them.

What I did to day was build a ginger bbread house with the residents. They really enjoyed them selves some of them wanted to give up because they said it was hard but I was not letting them give up I keep telling them they could do t and do not give up. To be honest I have improved a lot as an intern because last year I was not this friendly with the staff I would only talk to my mentor and one or two people but this year I have been a social butterfly I talk to everyone and I help everyone not just my mentor and I feel very appreciated there. My work place is a great place because they take really good care of their residents they treat them like family also the staff as well its like a little community. This place reminds me of Impact how everyone takes care of each other and they got each others back. If one care giver gets in trouble they will all take the blame for it.

Final thoughts about my wle would have to be that I am really going to miss my internship and my mentor like the way I work with the residents and she saw how attached I got with them she has offered me a part time job there. I  am going to take it since wle is over with. This experience will affect my future decisions because I want to be come a nurse when I grow up and I want to help as many people as can before I leave this earth that’s my future goal.
